COM:DW of copyrighted characters. See also Com:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Cosplay of First Order Stormtroopers and Com:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Stormtroopers.

COM:COSPLAY says "If the costume is a completely original design (not based on any existing character design), and the designer has released it under a free license, it is permitted.". These are based on existing character designs. So, these are not permitted.

Delete BigAppleCon11.14.08ByLuigiNovi1.jpg, since the focus of the image is entirely the Stormtrooper.
'Keep BigAppleCon11.14.08ByLuigiNovi4.jpg, since it's more about the comics convention, of which the cosplayers present are one minimal element. Nightscream (talk) 23:37, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"I do not see a legal justification for removing the images we are discussing here. It is common for photographers to take pictures of people in costumes of copyrighted and/or trademarked characters. In general, such photographs are understood as lawful.
I believe the deletion of the photographs you were talking about was unnecessary, and that this represents a too-conservative worldview with regard to the applicability of copyright and other intellectual property theory. "
Notice the "copyrighted and/or trademarked characters". --MGA73 (talk) 08:54, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Admin says that "Mike Godwin's email is clearly marked as obsolete everywhere it's quoted" in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Darth Vader. --Yuraily Lic (talk) 23:36, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment It is not the admin's judgment. On the other hand, Com:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Cosplay of First Order Stormtroopers is the admin's judgment. --Yuraily Lic (talk) 23:33, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep the people in the picture posed, i.e. agreed to the photo, it was at a trade fair. die Abgebildeten haben posiert, sprich dem Foto zugestimmt, es war auf einer Messe. Tschüß -- Ra Boe watt?? 19:09, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The focus of the discussion is whether these are copyrighted characters or not. Your comment is irrelevant. --Yuraily Lic (talk) 03:28, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Comment In Commons:Deletion requests/File:Spiderman and child.jpg, admins judged based on Mike Godwin's email. But today, "Mike Godwin's email is clearly marked as obsolete everywhere it's quoted". (Sebari says in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Darth Vader) --Yuraily Lic (talk) 13:16, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Yuraily Lic: Administrators are also not Gods, please Ignore All Rules here, thx. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:17, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep. The Stormtrooper costume is Star Wars' version of body armor, which is a useful article of clothing. Designs which serve a utilitarian purpose are not eligible for copyright — taken as a whole, the Stormtrooper outfit is basically just a white-colored suit of armor. It is possible that the detailed designs of the helmet/etc could be copyrightable per the separability test; it's impossible to know for sure without a judge's ruling. However, those possibly-copyrighted details are not very prominent in most of these photos, and would appear to be de minimis use. I'd definitely advocate for adding {{Costume}} to all of these, but deletion seems too extreme. –IagoQnsi (talk) 23:14, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep Mike Godwin's email is still true in this matter, for Sebari's so-called contest, I would love to re-contest shortly when I have free times. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:17, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The decisions by admins were "delete". --Yuraily Lic (talk) 13:29, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: mainly kept the photos of the cosplay that were not exactly like the movie costumes in every detail. But deleted the bad quality ones (e.g. blurred, or distorted, or non-informative), and the ones with copyrighted material in the background. Ruthven (msg) 07:42, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: mainly kept files per other decisions (e.g. see above), and also because some files do not include sufficient copyrighted material (e.g. closups) to be a copyvio. Deleted blurred ones. Ruthven (msg) 07:46, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
